I am Walter Alesci-Chelini, a native-speaker from Argentina who has taught Spanish for the last 17 years as a full-time private tutor in Edinburgh as well as at the Edinburgh University.

I am a highly qualified native-speaker with a University of Alcalá (Madrid) qualification of a two-year Master’s course in Teaching Spanish and have lived in Buenos Aires, Barcelona and Madrid. I also hold a MA, MSc & a PhD in Media Studies and Sociology and I am an avid and enthusiastic linguist, able to converse in English, French and Italian. I focus on confidence, ensuring my students feel supported and sure of their abilities and my aim is to bring an honest and essential passion for Spanish language and its wide and diverse culture.

Students receive (2) hours of language tutorial-coaching sessions and also feedback about their performance in class. One-to-one tuition is ideal for people who want to improve their command of Spanish, experience rapid improvement and spoken language, enabling me to tailor-make every session to bring out the best of each pupil.

The entire session is well conducted, a trouble-free grammar explanation thank to the very handy tips and realistic exercises and board games. I haven't met a teacher before who combines your competence, organisational skills plus a dynamic approach and an ability to make learning fun. Now my Spanish has improved enormously, that’s what my friends from Punta del Este, Uruguay say every time I go back and see them.

We have been going to Spanish classes with Walter for several years. His excellent and well planned lessons have made learning the Spanish language and about the various cultures of the Spanish speaking world very enjoyable and stimulating - one of the highlights of our week. His classes embrace not only the language itself but also literature, art and film, there is always plenty of time to chat covering a wide range of topics. The two hours of being immersed in Spanish pass like a flash.

I have now had 4 one-to-one lessons and not having spoken much Spanish since leaving school many years ago. I at first was very nervous and unsure of what I could remember. I am now looking forward to my 5th lesson, amazed at how much Walter has dragged out of my memory So pleased I took the plunge to start learning again. Thank you.

Walter was absolutely invaluable in helping me prepare for my end of year Spanish writing and speaking university exams. Most of my course was text book based and as a result my conversational Spanish was not where I would have liked. My sessions with Walter helped me break my mental block, corrected all of my dodgy pronunciation and gave me enormous confidence. Plus, I learnt how to write essays properly. All the while, Walter was patient, friendly and encouraging.

I enjoy our Spanish lessons and its relaxed manner, which owes a lot to you, Walter. It is nice to be where you do not feel anxious about making mistakes and talking about a range of topics. I feel much more confident about trying to speak Spanish when I go to Dénia in Spain every summer. I have a reasonably good memory for vocabulary which helps and perhaps what I need to do more is to work on the verbs and the different tenses as often I cheat by avoiding the use of Subjunctive. But I enjoy myself!
